Polly's Interview by H.S. (July 2010)

interview1H.S. : What is your best live experience since the release of your album last year and your best artistic encounter ?

P.S. : Playing the barbican was pretty special as I dressed up as a monochrome fairy and it was cool to share a stage with so many great musicians, including a Harpist, Also playing the Round House was very special to because of all the history of the venue and all the amazing bands that have played on the same stage.

H.S. : Recently, there has been hear in the trailer of the game "Crysis 2" with a fine interpretation of "New York New York" of Frank Sinatra. How did this experience will it be published ?

P.S. : Yeah the New York New York cover was something that I did in my flat in the attic at my piano and the people who were working on Crysis 2 loved, so one minute I was playing it in my little attic flat, the next I was in Abbey Rd recording it with a full string section.

H.S. : A new album is being recorded, can you tell us what are your influences for this second album and your artistic desires for this new experience ?

P.S. : The soundscapes are bigger and there are more beats. Its still a big mix of electronics and raw acoustic instruments. Lyrically I guess I have grown up a bit so my writing style has probably changed  and hopefully matured a bit, I have been writing with a few other people and have found it has taken my mind to lots of different creative spaces and exciting new planets, so hopefully that will reflect in the songs. My friend tom listened to a few of the tracks and said how strong he thought it sounded he said it sounds like a positive angry therapy!

H.S. : You have recorded at Abbey Rd Studios, what memories you keep of these session ?

P.S. : It was really amazing to record there and when you walk in I was very aware of all the amazing history that goes with just being in the building, But ultimately you have to remember it is a recording studio, and you are there to make music.  I felt incredibly lucky to be there surrounded by so much history and so knowing just how many legends have recorded there was kind of crazy,But ultimately I was there to make music if I wasn't in Abbey Road it would have been somewhere else. To be honest I am always just happy to be in a studio, be it Abbey Road or the Harrow Road, its the making music part that really excites me.

H.S. : With whom would you like to do a duet ?

Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips, or Bonnie Prince Billy, I don't know, I often hear other people music and think it would be fun to collaborate !

H.S. : Can you tell me more about the recent release of The Ghost Girl Lovesick Song ? What is the history of this single ?

P.S. : Tonya Hurley is the Author of a series of books called Ghost Girl, she approached me said she has some lyrics and asked if I would like to write some music, she then sent me the books, and I fell in love with them, and agreed to do the music. Vince Clarke then did some production on them and thats kind of how it happened.

H.S. : Will we get to see soon a new pollyworld movie in collaboration with Tom ?

P.S. : Hopefully me and tom have talked about doing another one, but they always happen so spontaniously i don't think it would be very good if we actually planned one. I am sure there will be another pollyworld film out at some point !

H.S. : Do you have live projects at the moment and will we have the chance to see you in concert in France one day ?

P.S. : I would love to play in France, O spent a lot of time there as a child and have so many amazing memories ! But at the moment I am totally focussing on this new album, I am hoping it will be out in the first half of next year, which means I can't go on the road, as I have to be in the studio ! I hope to go on tour though when I have finished recording !
